Hacked Wii Shop Browser Doesn’t Work Anymore…

I hacked my Wii to surf the Internet, and now Nintendo issued an update that prevents it from working anymore…. For a day, I had the Wii surfing Google and Yahoo (without Javascript, Flash, or Java) and it was working great. My server did all the DNS redirection and everything was just peachy. Then, a horrible thing happened-I updated the firmware on my Wii! Suddenly my hack didn’t work anymore, and now I’m forced to use the computer for Internet…how is it that Nintendo is deciding what I can do with my stuff? Anyhow, until I can figure out how to get around this one, it looks like I’ll have to pay for Nintendo’s official browser… What I did was set up my server to look like Nintendo’s Wii Shop (by using DNS redirection). Then I set up a PHP proxy script that allowed me to surf sites like Google and Yahoo without actually leaving the Wii Shop, which fooled the Wii. Using free tools like Apache and PHProxy, this was a snap to pull off (there’s several guides on the Internet). However, Nintendo apparently learned of this little “bug” in their shop, so after their patch in the update, there was no turning back. The Wii shop now only acts as the Wii shop, unfortunately, and nothing else. Any ideas as to when a fix is coming out soon?

no official release date, i was hearing sometime in 2007

The Wii browser is supposed to be free till some time in mid 2007. So you shouldn’t have to pay for it when it does come out.

Wow. So you hacked your Wii for internet? Dude thats pathetic. Why use the Wii for internet? Thats just so dumb. You got a perfect computer for all of that. One that is able to do 10x as much than the wii can do. Your just wasting your time.Endless battle. The more hacks the more updates.

Dude, you’re missing the point. It’s the FUN of getting something that was designed for one thing and getting it to do something else. Like putting Linux on a Mac. Good fun….
